The Peak Centre
Outside Spaces

Fields, Woodland and Quiet Corners in the Heart of the Peak District
The grounds at The Peak Centre extend far beyond our buildings. With playing fields, woodland, a wildlife pond and peaceful gathering spaces, the outdoors forms a vital part of every stay here in Edale.
Whether your group is looking for space to play, reflect, explore or simply enjoy the scenery, our outdoor areas are freely available and well-maintained.
Arrival and Parking
The Centre entrance is located just off the village road into Edale.
- Our on-site car park accommodates around 15 vehicles
- Easy access for minibus drop-offs and deliveries
- Groups arriving by train can walk from Edale Station (approx. 10 minutes)
Playing Fields
We have two main open-air spaces ideal for sports, team games or informal group time.
Near Field (Main Playing Field)
- Large open space with goalposts
- Outdoor games equipment available (cricket, football, etc.)
- Equipment is stored in a purpose-built outdoor chest
- Ideal for free play, team-building or evening wind-downs
Ruth’s Field
- Adjacent to the playing field
- Provides extra space for large groups or structured outdoor activities
- Frequently used for leadership games, wide games, and walking challenges
Woodland Area
A small woodland on-site provides a natural setting for:
- Wildlife observation
- Training exercises
- Mini-orienteering
- Shelter-building or bushcraft activities
- Quiet walks and outdoor reflection
Campfire Circle
Located within the woodland, our campfire circle is one of the most popular features on site.
- Rustic oak bench seating arranged around a central brazier
- Surrounded by twelve standing stones, creating a unique and atmospheric space
- Used for storytelling, worship, group reflection, songs, teaching or evening barbecues
- Firewood provided on request
This space can be as structured or informal as you like—an ideal place to end the day together.
Wildlife Pond
Next to the campfire circle is a peaceful wildlife pond, home to various aquatic life.
- Pond dipping equipment available for supervised activities
- Great for introducing younger groups to nature and local ecosystems
- Often used alongside environmental workshops or self-led activities
Other Outdoor Features
- Gas barbecue equipment available for group use near the accommodation blocks
- Boot wash provided for post-walk clean-up
- Cabin in the woods for small group activities or outdoor teaching sessions
- Hidden corners and benches around the grounds for quiet conversation or personal reflection
The Peak Centre grounds are designed to enhance both adventure and stillness. Whether you’re planning full days of activity or quiet moments between sessions, the space outside is just as valuable as what’s inside.
